Barclodiad y Gawres

Whilst the Egyptians were building their pyramids, the Neolithic folk of Anglesey were erecting burial mounds and chambered tombs all over the island. On the coast at Barclodiad y Gawres, a huge mound survives, dating from around c2500 BC. It’s undergone reconstruction to reveal the interior chamber, but the exterior alone makes for an impressive and imposing sight when viewed on the skyline.

There are worse spots for a siesta…
